How to Make Your VTuber Model React to a Wheel Spin (2026)

The trick is a spin wheel that talks to the VTube Studio API and lets you map each wheel prize to its own hotkey. Most wheel tools can't do this at all — they render a result and stop. A few streamer tools can fire one generic reaction. The version worth setting up fires a different hotkey per outcome, so the wheel becomes a performance instead of a readout.

Step 1 — Build your reactions in VTube Studio

Open VTube Studio and set up the expressions or poses you want to use — a shocked face, a celebration, a sad slump, a confetti prop. Assign each one a hotkey (VTube Studio does this under the hotkey settings). Then enable the VTube Studio API in settings; it listens on port 8001 for plugins.

Step 2 — Connect the wheel to VTube Studio

In the streamer dashboard, open the VTube Studio section and click Connect. VTube Studio shows an Allow popup the first time — approve it. Wheel of Item saves the token, so on later streams it reconnects silently; you won't get the popup again. (If a tool makes you re-approve every session, that's a sign it isn't storing the token — a small thing that gets annoying fast.)

Step 3 — Map each wheel prize to a hotkey

This is the part that makes it feel alive. In the VTS Advanced section there's a table with one row per wheel prize. For each prize, choose the VTube Studio hotkey that should fire — plus an optional delay (wait a beat after the wheel stops) and hold (how long to keep the reaction on). Map "Penalty" to the shocked face, "Bonus" to the celebration, and leave boring outcomes unmapped so nothing fires on them.

Step 4 — Put the wheel on stream and spin

Copy the wheel's widget URL and add it to OBS as a Browser Source (transparent background). Now spin it — from the dashboard, from a chat command like !spin, or on a donation. When the wheel lands, the mapped hotkey fires and your model reacts on camera. One tip can spin the wheel, land a result, and change your model's face — all from a single event.

Why per-prize reactions beat a single generic one

If your model does the same thing on every spin, viewers tune it out. When the reaction matches the result, chat learns the pattern — they know the shocked face means a penalty landed, so the tension builds before the wheel even stops. Save your biggest reaction for the rarest slice and every spin carries stakes. That's the whole reason to bother wiring VTS in: it turns a result into a moment.

Do other wheel tools do this?

Short version: general random pickers don't. Wheel of Names, PickerWheel, and similar tools are built to display a random result — they have no VTube Studio integration and no concept of firing a hotkey. Some streamer overlays can trigger one fixed reaction on a donation, but per-result mapping (a different hotkey for each wheel prize) is rare. If reacting to the specific outcome matters to you, check for VTS API support and a per-prize hotkey table before you commit to a tool.
